Microbiology Lab Basics: Preparing and Staining a Smear

In order to view microbiological specimens under a microscope, it is first necessary to prepare an appropriate microscope slide. In this video, we demonstrate how to prepare and fix a smear onto a glass microscope slide. We then demonstrate how to perform a simple stain with crystal violet, and a very commonly used differential stain (Gram stain).
